Description
The High-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C) Colorimetric Assay Kit is a highly reliable and sensitive assay designed for the quantitative measurement of HDL-C in serum, plasma, culture supernatant, tissue, and cells. HDL-C is an anti-atherosclerotic lipoprotein that can transport cholesterol from extrahepatic tissues to the liver for metabolism and excretion of bile from the body. Its plasma level is negatively correlated with the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The assay is based on the reaction of HDL-C with enzyme reagents containing cholesterol esterase and cholesterol oxidase to produce hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide is catalyzed by an oxidase in the presence of 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AA) and phenol (T-OOS) to form a red quinone compound. The colored substance has a maximum absorption peak at 546 nm. The HDL-C content in the sample can be calculated by measuring the OD value at 546 nm.
