Description

Arsenazo III (3,6-bis((E)-(2-Arsonophenyl)diazenyl)-4,5-dihydroxynaphthalene-2,7-disulfonic acid, CAS # 1668-00-4) is a metallochrome indicator that is used for detecting calcium levels in plasma and serum.

Suitable for determination of micromolar amounts of calcium

General Description

• Arsenazo III is highly specific for calcium and produces absorbance peaks in the 600-660 nm range
• It reacts in slightly acidic conditions, and is soluble in alcohol and semi-soluble in water

Application

• Arsenazo III can detect calcium in permeabilized cells; it is also capable of detecting uranium and thorium
• Arsenazo III has been used in vitro to measure intracellular Ca2+ levels in live neurons alongside patch clamp methods
