Thermo Scientific™ Dermatophyte Selective Agar (Taplin)
Isolate and rapidly differentiate dermatophytes from other fungi with a clear color change in this selective medium.
Brand: Thermo Scientific™ PO5087A
Description
Selectively isolate and rapidly differentiate dermatophytes and other fungi with Thermo Scientific™ Dermatophyte Selective Agar (Taplin). The medium contains cycloheximide, gentamycin and chlortetracycline which suppress accompanying bacterial flora, as well as partially suppressing the growth of other yeasts and molds. A color change in the medium differentiates dermophytes from other fungi that may be present.
In addition to the selective inhibitors, cycloheximide, gentamycin and chlortetracycline, Dermatophyte Selective Agar as per Taplin contains phenol red pH indicator. A color change from yellow to red indicates the proteolytic activity of most dermatophytes and the formation of basic metabolites. In contrast to typical dermatophytes, many other molds form acidic metabolites which do not change the color of the agar. It is, therefore, possible to rapidly differentiate between dermatophytes and other fungi.- Selective: accompanying bacterial flora are suppressed
- Clear results: color change aids rapid differentiation of dermatophytes
- Ready-to-use: convenience of prepared media
