Description

Can be used as a neutralizer, since it reacts with both acids and bases. Sodium Bicarbonate, MP Biomedicals is a commonly used laboratory chemical, also referred to as baking soda. It can be an effective way of controlling fungus growth or to remove impur

When reacting with bases, the compound forms carbonates. When reacting with carboxyl groups, it gives a fast-forming and effervescent carbon dioxide formation. Its many uses include:

  • Remove or washes acidic impurities from a crude liquid to yield a purer sample
  • To test for the presence of carboxylic groups in proteins
  • Decreases serum potassium levels, as well as increases blood pH and bicarbonate concentration
  • Decreases the duration of a peripheral nerve block in rats when added to Lidocaine
  • Effective way of controlling fungus growth
  • When mixed with water, can be used as an antacid
  • Used as a leavening agent in cooking and baking (CO2 release causes expansion of the batter and forms the characteristic texture and grain in baked and fried foods)
